This web site contains no additional required pre-teaching lessons or activities. However, to participate in the videoconference, students need to be grouped into teams to use the maps and charts provided. The specific skills and learning outcomes necessary to successfully complete team objectives are included in the Pre-Event section. Keep these in mind when preparing your students. The following problem-based learning exercise is optional preparation for your students before the event. The Problem: Can you predict the weather? Some Questions: - What do we know?
- What do we need to know?
- How will we find information?
Some Suggestions: - Use a newspaper, web site, television, or weather instruments to record daily weather for your city. Do the same for a city about 100 miles north, a city 100 miles south, one 100 miles east, and one 100 miles west of your location.
- Record information about temperature, air pressure, dew point, relative humidity, cloud cover, wind direction, and wind speed for a minimum of two weeks.
- Note any weather patterns or trends. How and when do they affect the weather in your area?
