Satellites equipped with infrared sensors take images of clouds and
Earth's surface. The Day 1, 2, and 3 links on this page give you infrared
radiation (IR) satellite images taken at the same time as your maps.
Infrared radiation is an invisible form of
radiation given off by all objects both day and night. These IR images
show information about cloud top temperature. The darker colors indicate
lower, warmer cloud tops. The brighter colors indicate higher, colder
cloud tops. This information might help you make your forecasts.
