Temperature
and Humidity Controls |

The
Heat Exchanger
controls the humidity by taking the Water Vapor out of the air. The
water is then sent to the Water
Recovery and Management Subsystem.
The water vapor in the air comes from the breath of the astronauts,
experiments on the Space Station, and astronauts' activities such
as cooking and bathing.
The Internal Thermal Control
System Low Temperature Loop carefully
monitors the temperatures in the Space Station. The cooling systems
and heating elements are always turned on. The electricity powering
this and all systems comes from the solar panels and / or the batteries.
Circulating cool, dry air throughout Space Station Alpha keeps the
temperature comfortable and the humidity low. Fans, tubes, and ventilation
openings within and between the modules of the Space Station are used
for air circulation.
